Prague: hotels area by areaWe grouped the Czech towns outside Prague into five regions: three in Bohemia and two in Moravia. Each region lists the Czech Republic hotels most booked on Booking and a link to all hotels in that town. Times are from Prague, approximate, and vary by service.
Český Krumlov
A small town built at the foot of its castle, where the Vltava bends. A day trip there and back means 5 to 6 hours on the road; stay one night and you see the old town quiet after the day trippers leave. There are direct trains and buses from Prague (seat61, October 2026).
Best for: Seeing the UNESCO listed old town and castle, with one night
From Prague: Český Krumlov: about 2.5 to 3 hours by bus or train
Good to know: the old town streets are cobbled; if you have a wheeled suitcase, ask before booking whether a car can reach the hotel door.

Karlovy Vary is the town known for its hot springs and spa hotels. Buses from Prague leave from Florenc and are faster than the train (seat61, October 2026); you can go as a day trip, but to enjoy a spa hotel you need to stay a night.
Best for: Spa breaks and rest

One of the closest towns for a day trip from Prague. Some trains stop at Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží outside town; from there a small connecting train runs to the historic centre (seat61, October 2026). If you want to see the town quiet in the evening, you can also stay a night.
Best for: Day trips; one night for a quiet evening

Booking: 9.2 (2,433 reviews).NH Collection Olomouc Congress prices AdOn a first trip, Prague. The airport is there, the city itself fills several days, and trains and buses to the other towns leave from Prague. We stayed in Prague too and did a day trip to Dresden from there. To pick a Prague neighbourhood, see where to stay in Prague , where we compare the areas one by one.
Kutná Hora is about 1 hour by train, the easiest day trip. Karlovy Vary is about 2 hours by bus and works as a day trip. Český Krumlov means 5 to 6 hours there and back, so one night there is more comfortable. We went to Dresden in Germany by bus in about 2 hours and came back the same evening. Times vary by service (seat61, Interrail, October 2026).
On 15 October 2026 we looked up Prague on Booking: a December night (8 to 9 December 2026) for two cost about €60 to €140 in Žižkov and Karlín and €140 to €200 in the Old Town, while a January night (12 to 13 January 2027) was mostly €50 to €100.
Prices for each Prague neighbourhood are on our where to stay in Prague page. We did not compare prices in the other towns; the link under each region opens that town's hotels with prices for your dates. See Czech Republic hotels Ad
Cobbles: old towns such as Český Krumlov have cobbled streets; with a wheeled suitcase, ask whether a car can reach the hotel door. Station: some trains to Kutná Hora stop at the main station outside town, so check how you get from there to your hotel. December: rooms in Prague are harder to find than in the other Czech towns; three days before our trip most fairly priced central hotels were full. If you are going at Christmas, book Prague first and add the Krumlov or Kutná Hora night later.
We did not stay in the towns outside Prague. We picked the hotels from the list of most booked hotels that Booking publishes for each town (checked October 2026), by guest score and number of reviews. Scores change over time; the current score and price are on each hotel's Booking page.
