Strasbourg Cathedral (Notre-Dame de Strasbourg)
the pink sandstone spire you see from all over town
A Gothic cathedral in red-pink Vosges sandstone. Its 142-metre spire, finished in 1439, made it the tallest building in the world until 1874. Turning into Rue Mercière from the car park, the facade suddenly fills the street.
We went inside too; entry is free. The official page lists opening times of Monday to Saturday 8:30-11:15 and 12:45-17:45, Sunday 14:00-17:15, closed on 25 and 26 December (strasbourg.eu).
The astronomical clock performs daily at 12:30, with tickets sold at the cathedral. A 330-step climb takes you to the 66-metre platform, with views over the roofs to the Vosges and the Black Forest.
